Meet Sabrina, an athlete who is running in support of Team TFFT at the March 17th NYC Half Marathon! Read below to learn more about Sabrina and make sure to cheer her on on March 17th!
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Northern New Jersey. I am from a town called Clifton. My ethnic background is from the Dominican Republic. I still travel there often and used to spend my summers as a child, so I definitely count that as my second home.
What do you do for work?
I work for a Travel Management Company called Flight Centre. I am directly employed by their event management agency, Cievents. I am an Event Manager, who assists will all the strategic aspects of corporate events.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Travel! Concerts, museums, and running of course.
Who is your inspiration in life?
I must say my mother is my greatest inspiration. She has instilled in me the importance of being an independent woman despite any hurdles that may present themselves. I deeply admire the intellect, humility, and drive that she embodies. She came from a rural countryside village in the Dominican Republic and has never forgotten her roots. She always finds ways to help those she encounters throughout her travels who are less fortunate. Whether it is helping a local child get books for school, using her interpreting skills to translate at the World Education Forum in Dakar or bringing suitcases of donated clothes every time she returns to the Dominican Republic, my mother has always taught me the importance of doing right by others whenever possible.
How did you hear about Team TFFT?
I came across TFFT’s page when I was looking up the different organizations participating in the race and then fell in love with everything TFFT is doing. As mentioned, I have spent a lot of time in the Dominican Republic and learned early on what it is like to give back to those less fortunate than you. What I love most is that TFFT gives the children a tool that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives and that is an education and in return you give people the opportunity to better themselves and see the world.
What inspired you to run this March?
I first ran the Philadelphia Full Marathon in 2017 to take in the new city that I had just moved to and honestly it was something I never even thought that I could do. Now that I have relocated back to the NJ/NYC area for work, I am eager to keep at my new found hobby, which is participating in races.
What’s your favorite place to run?
Near any body of water. Growing up in NJ I will also have a sweet spot for the river front trail that overlooks the NYC Skyline. That view never gets old!
